Course description

Classics: Ancient Greece is the study of the language, history, culture, and thought of ancient Greek civilisation. This course will provide you with a real feel for what a Classics degree is like and is designed so that you will not need any prior experience of Classics or Classical languages to participate.

Classics is a very broad subject and during the course you will attend lectures, seminars, and workshops on a wide variety of topics. Besides, you will also be set something to prepare for. This will involve being given an ancient text or texts to read through in advance, on which you will be asked to produce a short essay. You will then have the opportunity to talk through your ideas with staff and other students, just like in a real Oxford tutorial.
